What We Do

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow

The Scientista Foundation is the largest network of college and graduate women innovating science, technology, engineering, and medicine (STEM). Scientista works with student leaders to increase the number of women studying and pursuing careers in STEM by

  1.  Increasing the visibility of women in STEM and by

  2. Strengthening communities for women in STEM.

The Scientista Foundation serves as an umbrella organization for existing women in science organizations, who join our network by becoming a campus affiliate - such as ours at the University of Toronto.

At the University of Toronto Chapter, we strive to provide an inclusive and supportive community allowing UofT undergraduate and graduate female scientists to reach their full potential. We aim to provide a balance between social, community-building events and academic events to further learning as well as networking. Scientista offers a range of opportunities from presentations delivered by top-notch scientists at the forefront of their fields to casual brunches and other social events that allow students to engage with peers in a comfortable setting. This year we will be planning two exciting new initiatives. First, we will implement our first annual UofT Scientista conference, separate from the Foundation’s annual Symposium. The goal of this conference is to bring student and professional women together, to create an community of learning and opportunity. Second, we will initiate a scholarship for women pursuing STEM who have extensive community involvement, so that finances will not hold back one eager young female who has the power to change the world. At the end of the day, our aspiration is to create an atmosphere for women at the University of Toronto that fuels our passions, success, and sense of community.
